For the first time, the Literature Committee will be attending a book fair - the Tokyo Book Fair in Japan. The goal of the Committee’s participation is to increase familiarity with and heighten interest in Danish literature in Japan.
Since 2000, approximately 20 Danish titles have been published in Japanese, and participation at the book fair will help generate interest in Danish literature and help the Danish Arts Council assess funding possibilities. The Danish Literature Centre will collaborate with its Nordic sister organizations – NORLA, the Swedish Cultural Council and FILI – at the fair.
The Tokyo International Book Fair is Japan’s largest book fair. In 2007, 749 businesses and institutions from 29 countries participated. 55,000 people visited the fair.
